I don't know if this is a new problem, but if a Word document contains any images, it cannot be viewed in Reflow view after conversion to PDF. After selecting the Reflow menu option, the PDF remains in "normal" view and the Reflow menu option is now greyed out. This occurs both with Adobe Reader and Adobe Acrobat. I am using Word in Office 365.

As a workaround, I tried converting the Word document using Adobe Acrobat v9 (yes, I know it's old but it meets our needs). Reflow now works ok but Acrobat creates untagged PDFs. I have been through all the settings and I can't see anything that would account for this.

Can anyone shed any light on this? I am keen to avoid making any changes to the document in Acrobat because the client who will be creating the documents is not tech savvy and I am trying to write the simplest possible procedures for them.

Not experiencing this on my Acrobat Pro DC:2018 version with PDFs made from Word 2016, Windows 10 operating system.

No problem with Reflow. Graphics are there.

Hi Steve,

Is this Mac Word? I have had some weird issues recently, including tags
problems that I only had with InDesign to Acrobat DC 2018 (since November)
but they now seem to be happening in 2016
Word Mac (I am on Fast Insider thought so I might be getting these when
most people aren't yet seeing them). I am also now having weird font issues
with PowerPoint going to PDF after their last fast insider update.

Are you on a desktop or device?

Cheers

Lisa

We're starting to see the effects of PDF 2.0 being adopted by our software companies.

(The PDF 2.0 standard was released last year, https://www.pdfa.org/publication/iso-32000-2-pdf-2-0/. The PDF/UA 2 standard is still in development.)

So expect some changes to what Microsoft and Adobe's products produce. No transition is without its bumps and glitches.

But if there are errors, then log them to the appropriate User Voice forum. If you're doing an MS Office-to-PDF workflow, then log the error at both companies.

The User Voice forums are at:
—Acrobat https://acrobat.uservoice.com/
—Word https://word.uservoice.com/
—PowerPoint https://powerpoint.uservoice.com/
—Adobe InDesign https://indesign.uservoice.com/

I wondered if the 2.0 was the issue, but wasn't sure (Adobe didn't mention
it when I reported the PDF/InDesign bug). I am on Fast Insider Office so I
never know if they are changing things around, so I wait a bit and then use
the forums. I am hoping these issues are temporary! They are a real pain,
especially now that I can't use the TURO/Reading Order tool anymore to see
what the tags are, that is really not fun at all.

I hope everyone submits issues, because then they will fix them!

Cheers

We're using Word for Windows on desktop. I have been doing accessible PDF remediation for more than ten years (using Acrobat 9 for about the last 8 of those) and I don't recall seeing anything like this before.

If the PDF was exported from InDesign, then yes, we're still stuck with seeing <span> <span> <span> around every line of text when viewed in the Order panel.

But this doesn't happen if the PDF was exported from Word.

Lisa, are there other times when you can't see the tags in the Order panel?

I am now seeing that in Word too, for about 4 weeks (fast insider)...It is
driving me mad, because I like the TURO/Reading Order tool, makes it
quicker for me to see things. I actually had to use my XI version because I
got so frustrated with it. This is all on Mac...

Something in that Word release made it messy in DC 2018 Acrobat.

I have also had it where in both InDesign and Word, I only see some tags
and not others. So most will be <span> but then I will see a heading here
or there, it is so odd.

I think you were right on about 2.0, this all started to happen with
InDesign in November 2017 and Word just happened about a month ago (fast
insider)...

I will complain to them again, but Adobe still hasn't fixed the InDesign
issue, and I love InDesign now!

I now have to check everything in XI just to make sure I am seeing what the
client did and not what the programs are bugging on!

Cheers
