Subject: accessible code editor / IDE

For many years, I have done client-side coding in Visual Studio Express with
the aid of ZoomText Magnifier/Reader. Soon, I will stop using ZoomText in
favor of JAWS, but I am stumped what to use for an editor and IDE. Visual
Studio is only partially keyboard accessible, so I doubt that I can use it
once my eyesight is too poor to use a magnifier to compensate for keyboard
roadblocks.

Has anyone recently reviewed editor accessibility? I may be willing to pay
for a tool.

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Jeff,

VS is not accessible? That's the first time I hear that.

If you would have stated this to me back when .net 2.0 was around, I would
agree. However, Microsoft has invested tremendously in the latest IDE. I
have no problem using it with JAWS or NVDA.

You can also send a smiley face or a frowning face to their support team.
They will get on top it so quickly. I did that with the 2017 installer and
to my surprise, the answer was less than 12 hours.

Thanks. I will stick with Visual Studio in anticipation that my next screen
reader will work better than ZoomText, which does not read most VS message
and dialog windows.

Go with Fusion, I'd guess? The JAWS and ZoomText equivalent. I'm thinking
about doing it so that, when I need to jump focus to things in the virtual
viewer for my sighted co-workers to see, I can do that with Fusion. If it
doesn't do that yet it sure should!

In JAWS I don't think the Visual Studio scripts are available without making
them available in the Manage application settings function under Options in
the JAWS UI... Take what I say with a grain of salt, though, I'm a newbie
again... out of the work force as a stay at home Dadah until a year or so
ago...
