Hi Everyone,
Wanted to understand âessential' part of this guideline. How we should
determine whether restricting it to one view is essential or not.
I my app, pages are very complex and it would be difficult for user to
access them in landscape mod. Can this be still an issue to if landscape
view is not available?
I have checked some of app like Facebook, Bank of America etc. and none of
them has this feature so still I can't blame them as this requirement comes
under 2.1 and a huge change to make from implementation standpoint.
Anyway, please let me know your thoughts.
Thanks,
Pratik

If the pages are difficult to use in landscape just because of the layout you have chosen to use, I would say that you cannot rely on the "essential" exemption.
However, if the nature of the content is such that it absolutely must have a large height or width, then the exemption would apply.
I do not recommend looking at other apps to see what they do. My experience is that screen rotation has not been considered on almost any of the millions of apps (I am sure there are exceptions, but they are extremely rare). I often find that some screens rotate, but others don't even if they would work ok if they did.
