Regarding the total number of screen readers, I have not been able to
find a figure, but Mark Stimson (from the Sensory Access Foundation)
emailed me a pdf of a study commissioned by Microsoft that found total
numbers of working age people in the US
likely to benefit from accessible
technology (eg. they are blind or have a dexterity impairment) but it
didn't say how many actually use special keyboards or screen readers,
etc. I think this is the best data I am going to get, though. Thanks
Gary
