Hi,

I have a word document saved as an HTML file.
http://www.mhanp.org/WordComp/WordToHTML.htm
This document contains 22 errors and 69 warnings. If you look at the code
view, the CSS is a mess.

The same document was processed with a free MSN processor and came out like
this: http://www.mhanp.org/WordComp/WordAfterProcess.htm
This document contains no errors and only warning regarding the lack of a
doc type. It does validate section 508.

The free program is available here:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=209ADBEE-3FBD-482C-
83B0-96FB79B74DED&displaylang=EN

Hope this is of value.

Andy, your link to the free program does not appear to work. Can you provide
more details so we can find it, or a tiny url that will fit in an e-mail?

Thanks to Guido who provided the shorter link.

The MS HTML Filter v2.0 has been around for a long time and will only work
with MS Office 2000 and older. If you are using MS Office 2003, you can work
around the issue by saving as a text file (you lose all of your formatting
however, including bolds and italics) or when importing into your HTML
editor, use "Paste Special." This is the workaround for FrontPage.
Dreamweaver will accept the basic cut-and-paste from Word and delete all of
the MSO garbage.

The alternate is to use a tool like the one that you can buy from the Univ
of IL http://www.accessiblewizards.uiuc.edu/

My understanding is that the new version of Office will have a feature to
make this conversion easier.

We'll see.

The Illinois Accessible Web Publishing Wizard for Microsoft Office allows you to create Section 508 and WCAG 1.0 compliant documents using a simple wizard interface.
