Laura,
Is it okay to create a userid and password to logon to this text only site,
or do you have a "demo" userid and password you would like for us to use?
Thanks,

Mr. Vosloo:
We have created a text-only version of Westlaw, the premier online legal
research service for attorneys. It is called Westlaw Text Only
(text.westlaw.com) and it is compatible with screen readers and other
assistive technology. It is also used by customers who access Westlaw at
slower connection speeds. It was showcased this year at the American Bar
Association, NABLA and ABLA conferences where it was well-received. We are
currently developing additional enhancements to make Westlaw Text Only even
more accessible based on their membership's feedback.

Thanks.

There have been a few requests in the past by users compiling lists of good
looking accessible sites. Does anyone if these lists are publicly available?

If you have a great looking site which is accessible -- can also be a
text-only version -- please send me the URL.

Thanks
Steve

Hello,

I'm coming out of lurk mode to request comments on a page that's got both me
and my tester puzzled.

The page will become the front page of the Jones Library site and contains
news about upcoming and ongoing events. What's happened is that the main news
section (sort of the big headline) seems to have disappeared in Jaws.

My tester tells me: "What I hear is absolutely nothing. The reader just goes
on to the next heading which it says is 'In October,' I think it was."

What I hoped she would hear is something like: "At the library. Beginning
November 25th. Unicef Cards (short alt texts for 5 pictures of Unicef cards)
will be on sale in the Front Hallway."

Long descriptions will be added later this afternoon before we go live.

HTML and CSS are valid.

The url is http://www.joneslibrary.org/index_next.html.

Many thanks,
Seth

Seth,

I took a look at the site yesterday using JAWS 3.7 and 4.5 with Internet Explorer 6.0.I didn't have problems with the page. It read correctly.

If there are still problems with the page, let me know and I will take another look.

Thanks!

Thanks for looking at the page, Tim. My tester and I figured out that she was
actually going to the live version of the page, not the upcoming one which
was what I wanted her to critique. I'm glad to know it worked in at least two
versions of JAWS.

The page is live now and I've added long descriptions so that visitors will be
able to get some idea of what the thumbnail Unicef cards I've put up look
like.

Actually, now that thanks to everybody's help we've established that JAWS
does, indeed, find my content, I'd be interesting in knowing just how clear
that content is. I went for what I thought was a very minimalist approach
with the alt text, and I'm wondering if what a a screen reader user hears
actually makes any sense.

Comments welcome.
