Is anyone familiar with this? Someone recommended that we might want to
use it in a new project, and I'm distrustful (as I am of all overlays).
The example site I was directed to allowed font resizing, high contrast,
and similar changes that don't (as far as I know) require an add-on, and
did nothing about image descriptions or similar points.

Make your site accessible first, then feel free to add any widget that
allows various types of customizations.

Widgets are not a replacement for making a site accessible.
