Morning!

I've been having problems with the Audible sync app on my Windows 11 desktop computer. I found out on the weekend that support for the audible app for windows was discontinued in March 2024 with the final date being March 2025.

There are many of us who use a victor reader stream as our listening device and have subscribed to audible content for years.

The Audible sync app was the only means we have of activating our MP3 player and now this is no longer available.

The advantage to using a tool like the victor reader stream is that there is no display and we can operate it completely with buttons.

The trend seems to be to force us to use either android or iOS devices to consume our audible content.

This removes choice. This also means that using some of the features of the audible apps on mobile device devices is awkward, especially when listening while falling asleep, or waking up in the middle of the night. We can't simply press buttons and set timers or move to chapters.

We may have to unlock devices, locate the app, and then perform the task we want.

I've been using Audible content with a victor reader stream for around 20 years and this is significantly going to impact my ability to purchase audible content and to read it.

I'm not sure why Microsoft has done this, however, perhaps they can be persuaded to backtrack.

When Audible and human wear refused to work together to support the victor reader stream with audible sync, there was a Grass roots petition that finally comma after three or four years, got the two of them working together so that we had support for the stream in Audible sync.

Maintaining accessibility and inclusion in design should not be this difficult! We shouldn't have to sign petitions. Every time tools are removed.

Cheers, Karen

Karen,
I feel your pain however I do not use Audible on my Victor stream.
I do use the iPhone app quite a bit.
And ever since I updated to OS 18.
I am unable to access the library.
Today I went and updated the newest version of audible on my iPhone
And although I can access every other tab
I cannot access the library.
So I feel your pain

LOL, I have iOS 18 and can access my library and even sort by series (something the stream can't do).

However, on my iPad Air, I can't play any of the audible content. It is the only app where the sound doesn't work and I can't figure out why. This was true for iOS 17 and now 18.

Don't you wish the tools we need would just work? LOL

Cheers, Karen

Too right?
It would be nice if our tools worked all the time wouldn’t it?

Hello,

Can you point us to any other links by chance that state that this version is being removed in March? This is for the Android version that was available in the Amazon store which is no longer being provided by Microsoft. The Audible Sync app that works in Windows 10 and 11 is still available I think from the Audible web site unless I am misunderstanding the issue here:

The AudibleSync app is a Windows 10 and 11 app for your computer that allows you to download titles quickly and easily. You can also use this app to transfer your titles to a supported MP3 player or accessibility device.

The link and download are found here:

I talked with the audible tech support Saturday morning after downloading the latest version of AudibleSync and not being able to sign in due to an error message. The tech support person said that the AudibleSync app was not supported on Windows 11.

Up until Saturday, when I got an initial error message, I'd been able to use the AudibleSync app.

I'll see if they have another link confirming this.

Cheers, Karen

I will reach out to my senior contacts at Amazon to see if they can help.

OK, so this time the tech support person said that it IS supported for Windows 10 and 11. <frustration>

I'll try to install it again and see what happens.

I did reach out to Amazon's team on this and will try and get more data to share if they provide it, not to mention the fact that Audible is using an accessibility overlay for their web site.

It appears that Audible and AudibleSync are two separate apps. Support has ended/is ending on the Audible app, not AudibleSync.

As of March 6, 2024, the dedicated Audible app for Windows 11 is no longer available for download due to the discontinuation of the Amazon Appstore on Windows 11; however, existing users can still access Audible through AudibleSync which remains supported on Windows 10 and 11, allowing them to listen to their library titles without an expiration date on the functionality itself.
Key points to remember:

* No new downloads: You can't download the separate Audible app on Windows 11 anymore.
* AudibleSync still works: Use the AudibleSync app on Windows 10 and 11 to access your Audible library.
* Alternative options: If you need to download new titles, consider using the Audible mobile app on iOS or Android, or access your library through the Audible website.
