Indeed - LIFT's mission (to make currently-accessible sites
accessible) is laudable, but the general feeling is that ultimately it
will harm the cause of accessibility as PHBs commission LIFT instead
of doing web sites the right way in the first place.

Sites have a shelf-life; they're normally redesigned/reimplemented at
least every three or so years (in my experience). It's far better to
get decent levels of Standards Compliance incorporated into a redesign
than put what is, ultimately, sticking plaster over an existing one.
