WebAIM forum readers may be interested in the information below. This
is especially in light of the Kindle decision to allow authors and
publishers the option to disable text-to-speech for their works. It was
framed as an issue of copyright and one that would reduce the
marketability of audio books on tape (have these folks actually listened
to most screen readers?). Please share.

In order to allow interested persons to provide their views, the United
States Copyright Office and the United States Patent and Trademark
Office have published a Notice of Inquiry seeking comment on several
focused topics related to the provision of access to copyrighted works
(i.e., copyright limitations and exceptions) for blind or other persons
with disabilities. Additionally, a public meeting will be held on May
18, 2009 in Washington, DC to facilitate a live exchange of views and
information on this topic.
