Hello,

neither on the youtube site itself nor with youtube videos embedded elsewhere am I able to access
the controls like forward / backward slider via keyboard-only navigation. Once I have performed a
mouse-click on any control, I can navigate and get the focus via keyboard -- but if I just use the
tabulator navigation, no success.
Am I missing something?

BTW: I don't have any luck with keyboard-only navigation on vimeo.com, either...

Does anybody happen to know how to get this to work properly?

Thanks for any hints!

Other than that - very cool.

Also, check http://icant.co.uk/easy-youtube/

Hi Christian

I went to the link you provided and didn't find it very accessible. I
did a search and wasn't informed that my search was complete, I was
still in edit mode after hitting enter. Only after going out of forms
mode did I realize that it had already searched.

Yeah the aim of that interface was for a charity for learning disabled
users. I didn't do any ARIA or screenreader enhancements so far. I just
came back from California where I met with the YouTube people to add
caption and annotation support. Will fix that when I got it out there.

I wonder how http://youtube.com/xl works for keyboard users?

No better than YouTube, is the answer. The controls are still
embedded in Flash, so I can't get to them.

Geoff, Thanks so much for the link to that other YouTube wrapper!
It's amazing. I've been playing videos all morning, ever since
you sent the link.

Loremy says:

That's great, thanks a lot, Geof!
And a big thank you to Thomas Jolliffe, author of that great service!

Loremy says:

The fatal error message just refers to the displaying of related videos at the bottom of that page.
Service works like a charm!

This app is also helpful, although I can't find a way to get the video size buttons
to work via keyboard navigation.
Thanks to you, too!

Also, the question was keyboard control - not screen reader. Let's
tackle one thing at a time.

Chris, I couldn't get your interface to work in Firefox 3 with
mouseless browsing. It would load the video if you gave a URL,
but I couldn't get it to play, and I couldn't do a search.

This was keyboard only. I have no idea if it worked with the
mouse.

Christian,

I tested http://youtube.com/xl and found that it worked well with the keyboard using the arrow keys for navigation when not using a screen reader. When I turned on the screen reader the keyboard functionality stopped. Probably a conflict between the screen reader and the flash controls. The other player that you linked to worked with the screen reader.

The test system was Win XP with IE7, and JAWS 10.

Thanks to you, too!

Question to Christian Heilmann:
No answer to my above question concerning the video size buttons in your application?

Thanks,
Loremy
