Dear all,
I am involved with the ACTOER (actoer.referata.com - Accessibility Challenged and Techniques for Open Educational Resources) and found the help of the list invaluable before. At the moment/ we are looking at stories of making OERs (more) accessible especially in the context of engaging with repositories. Has anybody on the list used resources developed by and/or contributed to the OER Access project (http://oeraccess.merlot.org/)? If that is the case, could you come back to me at = EMAIL ADDRESS REMOVED = and share your experiences, no matter how small your involvement was?

JZ: I'm not sure if it will be helpfull... In Poland there is goverment
programme "Digital School". There will be prepared e-guidebooks for
students. All materials will be licenced under CC-BY and CC-BY-SA and
WCAG 2.0 AA compliant.
Now we started to teach authors, how to prepare sources (texts, images,
multimedia, math) to make output formats accessible. We prepared guide
for them and made some workshops. "We" means Forum Dostępnej
Cyberprzestrzeni (Accessible Cyberspace Forum) http://fdc.org.pl (only
in Polish).

All,
I emailed the webmaster of the MERLOT site and suggested they had accessibility issues. They are aware and are working on an update. Given this is hosted at a CSU campus, they have access to the HiSoft testing tool and somewhat of a mandate to make sites accessible. I offered to take a peek at their revised design as it develops (as I'm suer others on this list would do).
I've also forwarded this email response to the MERLOT folks so they are aware of George's issue and that the list is "watching" their site.

Hello Anna, not sure if this is what you are interested in but I am currently using 3D printing to make the structural elements of STEM learning objects more accessible for blind and visually impaired students and also those students who are kinesthetic learners for greater hands-on access. My future plan is to have the stl files available for anyone to download and make their own learning objects which are now in the real and touchable world rather than the virtual world. Again, not sure if this helps but thought you might be interested in this work.
