hi everyone: i'm trying to find information about the accessibility of
"add this" and "share this" sites (they facilitate the sharing through
social media). looked on http://webaim.org/ and, perhaps didn't search
right, but couldn't find anything.

can anyone give me more information?

add this:
http://www.addthis.com/

share this:
http://www.sharethis.com/#sthash.m704r0EY.dpbs

many thanks and best wishes,
Donna Jones

No I've never seen an accessible version of those social sharing widgets. You're going to have to create your own sharing buttons which is easy or use JavaScript to modify the accessibility properties of the sharing buttons after the page loads.

There is the *wet-boew <https://github.com/wet-boew/wet-boew> */Share
widget at: https://github.com/wet-boew/wet-boew/wiki/Share-widget

Using an older version I had problems getting the email this to function
like I wanted and have not had time to revisit. However the social media
links qork quite nicely.

When I looked into this, I also found the resources that are part of
the Web Experience Toolkit. They looked like the best bet to me when
I was focusing on this issue.

In case this might be helpful, I found a discussion of the ShareThis
widget, with a focus on Drupal. Maybe this could be used to stir up
interest in fixing ShareThis, generally:

I think whether or not it's "easy" to build something like this all
depends on the setting(s) in which one is working. In my experience,
what's ideal is to contribute to fixing what the mainstream is
already turning to; that's how we work toward actually making Web
accessibility more than "one off" jobs, that only experts have had
the time to figure out, in my view, anyway.

Best,
Jennifer

How about a share-this plugin (or sample code) for WordPress, especially
one that lets you select the social media services you want and place icons
on the page, rather than a pop-up thingie?
