Subject: Is this accessible?

Happy Friday,
We are looking for a way to implement description of college programs of study on a new site we are building. The list of programs might be 20 items long and we want to create some sort of interaction that allows a description of the program to be revealed to the user.
One team member came across this site: https://bigfuture.collegeboard.org/college-search?navid=gh-cs . Clicking on one of the left hand global nav items will reveal a large mega sub menu. When a mouse-user hovers over one of the sub items, a description displays to the right of it. It is hard for me to imagine how the descriptions become perceivable to a screen reader user. I tried to tab into it and had no luck (full disclosure: I'm a crummy keyboard user).
I would appreciate any feedback on the above example and any other good accessible examples of revealing additional content for items in a list. One idea we had was to use the expanding content idea (click on the "+" sign and the content expands. This seems to be most practical for mobile phone usage, but wondering if this creative community might have other ideas.
Thanks,
Angela French
