I have a question about how to present floor plans for a facility in a way that works for people without sight. Consider as an example;

How could this be structured in a way that is readily consumable for a person without sight?

I searched the archives and outside of a discussion about evacuation paths, I was not able to find anything.

Thoughts?

Geoff:

I think a 'word map' would be good to explore. Someone that I work with (Hi Bryan!) suggested something like this for us to use. It's basically a narrative of what a person would find. For instance, yours might start out with something like "When you walk in the main door, you will be in a hallway that resembles a letter 'C' that is reversed. Walking to the north-western-most part of the hallway is a door that leads to the bathroom. The bathroom is approximately 5' by 13' ... "

Here is a link to the summary:

At the bottom of the page/URL is a handout.

Hope that helps!
