Subject: Modal says "blank" to NVDA

Hello,
I am on a website and their dialog looks "blank" to NVDA, but when I hit
tab, I am able to move through and edit the fields, but when I enter into
brows mode, NVDA just says "blank".
Do you know what may be going on?

I'll have a wild guess and say the site mistakenly set
aria-hidden="true" to the modal / the whole page, accidentally hiding
the modal itself (rather than just hiding the underlying page)?

If Patrick is right and if you're using a Blink engine browser, you'll hear the field names if they have names... try the modal in Firefox and you'll not even hear those, just Tab stops.
