Subject: putting music scores on the Web

I have been reading about old efforts to create technologies for
putting music scores on web pages. (Anyway, I think that was the goal.) The
Music ML and Music Macro Language projects seem to be abandoned.
Does anyone know if there are any new projects along this line. It seems
like such an obvious need.
I keep thinking that a music solution would be easier to achieve than
MathML.
