I'm afraid I have no control over my PGP signature - this is a corporate
restriction which I know is a pain, and I also know that it has no doubt
caused posts to similar discussion groups to be skipped completely

Unfortunately, the system administrators will not do anything for me alone!

Anyway, I would still like to know the answer to my question about brackets.

Oh, and I really do avoid overuse of punctuation (except, of course, where
it's helpful or grammatically correct)

I just want to point out the irony of this statement coupled with the
rest of this email message, which i have quoted below. Bail out now
if you don't want to hear or read it again!

Methinks one who includes PGP signatures, warnings about viruses
and cautions about misdirected email should consider practicing what he
preaches regarding unnecessary punctuation!
