Hi Angela

In order to create proper column headers in all versions of Word you will
need to select the column header row(s), right-click, select Table
Properties, select the Row tab, and then check the "Repeat as header row at
the top of each page" check box. However, you will still need to create row
headers in Acrobat.

Also it's worth noting that although Word 2003-originated tables will
generate correct row and column span values for merged cells, this
capability has been lost in Word 2007 and 2010. These will also have to be
fixed in Acrobat.

Excuse the plug, but you will find four chapters and an appendix giving, I
think, a pretty comprehensive overview of accessible PDF table creation on
my website at:

Thanks

Subject: [WebAIM] table headers in MS Word 2010

Hi,
I will admit upfront that I am no MS any-office-product specialist. But I
am attempting to make some tables in a Word document and want them to be
marked up properly. In the Table Tools ribbon in the Table Styles Options, I
have header row checked. Is that all I need to do? I selected my first row
before I checked it, hoping that that would apply the headers to the first
row, but when I bring focus to the subsequent rows the checkbox still stays
checked. How do I know that it has been done correctly? In html, I can
just look in the code for <th> tags, but not so on a Word doc.

Thanks for any advice.
