I realize this isn't the answer that you are looking for, but I will often use ctrl+tab and ctrl+shift+tab to go back and forth between two tabs in Firefox.

Hope that helps at least a little!

Subject: [WebAIM] does anyone use firefox's ctrl+tab feature?

I like to alternate between my two most recently used tabs in firefox by using ctrl+tab. Similar to how I can alternate between my two most recently used apps by using alt+tab (on a pc). But I can't get this feature to work in firefox and it's frustrating from a keyboard user perspective.

I used to use firefox 56 and ESR since the quantum version didn't work well with jaws. With those versions of firefox, I could use an addon called tabmixplus that enabled the ctrl+tab to work. It was great. I'm using firefox 61 now (the latest non-beta update) and with firefox quantum, the tabmixplus addon no longer works and firefox disables it as a "legacy"
addon.

However, there's an option in about:preferences (or tools > options) called "Ctrl+Tab cycles through tabs in recently used order". It basically just changes the "browser.ctrlTab.previews" config option from false to true.
If I have both the preferences and config options open, I can see changing the value in one updates the other and vice versa.

But the option doesn't work for me. Ctrl+tab still just sequentially goes through the tabs. I've tried running with all addons disabled, I've restarted firefox, and I've rebooted. Nothing can get it to work. I was curious if anyone uses that option.
