Several years ago we had looked into this and I'm not sure an audio splitter was an option because the card reader that relied on the audio jack prevented the user from hearing VoiceOver. I had thought that Bluetooth audio might be an option as well as braille. As an alternative I did read that Square has a card reader that does not use the audio jack -- it uses Bluetooth. However, the new hard reader only supports chip cards and NFC and not magnetic strip only cards.
