Hi Alan,
I do not have experience with Ricoh's solution, but here at OpenText we have a competing solution that works very well.
You can define templates for your documents to control the tag structure of your resulting PDF/UA output.
You can search for "OpenText Output Transformation" or contact me offline for more information.
