Or plain ascii text, yes.

Adobe provides the Reader freely via download, but it can be difficult to
get at.
They have this link to an accessible download page for the Reader:

Note that Acrobat 5 and the latest Office XP don't get on well. Acrobat
doesn't properly install itself in any of the XP applications. Until Adobe
fixes the problem, you'll want to stick with earlier versions of Office
(2000 and 97)
