Sure, why not.

Sensory characteristics is scoped to *instructions* that refer to things
by their sensory characteristics. Having a checkmark in a button to
indicate it's selected doesn't fail. Having instructions elsewhere on
the page that say "Go and add a checkmark to the button" (or similar
things like "Press the round/green/semi-transparent button", "Hover over
the buttons and press the one that makes a bell sound when hovered",
etc) does fail that.
