I've been doing research and been so impressed I've been reviewing the
508 compliance for Mambo (http://www.mamboserver.com/) Server. I'm
testing using my knowledge of the accessibility standards (section 508)
and user simulation on Windows using JAWS and on Linux using Gnopernicus
(specifically the screen reader).
It is open source, and there are plenty of consultants available for it.
There are ISPs that provide dedicate Mambo support as well. Not only
that but it is easy to use, and you can make it 508 compliant. It is
*almost* compliant upon install, but since there is so many add-ons
(modules) there are some that haven't been tested for accessibility.
That shouldn't be a negative though - the system is easy enough that if
you find an add-on you like, I'm sure you can redo (or pay someone to
redo) it to include accessibility and meet 508 compliance.
If you have technical staff, or you are technical and have a spare
computer you really should try installing Mambo. There are things about
it that are so simple it makes me wonder why I did things the hard way.
You can upload modules, turn them on, and have it running in *minutes*.
I'm not joking and I'm not advocating irresponsible system
administration. This project (Mambo Server) simply rocks, in my opinion.

Norman Robinson
