Re: Skip Navigation Links in Search Engine Results
A quick search showed the phrase "skip navigation" showed up on
* 752,000 pages on Google
* 156,000 pages on Alta Vista
The phrase "skip to content" showed up on
* 173,000 pages on Google
* 14,600 pages on Alta Vista
I would expect the numbers to rise with time. Most of
these pages do not seem to be discussing the technique
of adding a skip navigation link for accessibility reasons.
Maybe the best solution would be to inform the
search engine designers about it and have them change
the programming to ignore these strings when they
occurred near the beginning of the page in alternate text,
or as isolated text unless they were part of a larger sentence or a heading.
