I am a newbee to both Web Design and designing Accessible Websites. I really want to make it my mission to help make the web a better experience for the disabled. I have been following these threads with awe. You guys are so wonderful to share your knowledge with us all. I wanted to ask, Is there a book you would recommend I read first that you think is above the rest?

Mike's Answer:
Web Accessibility, Web Standards and Regulatory Compliance by Jim
Thatcher et. al. ISBN 1-59059-638-2.
This book is the most thorough, understandable, and easy to use that I
have found.

Hi Carolyn,
I've been building websites for almost a decade and honestly, I didn't
really learn to do it correctly until about a year ago. And I'm still
learning, so don't feel too bad.
I've learned more about best practices from the following site than any
other resource. There are articles on just about every topic you can think
of from proper form design to image spriting to proper use of headings. They
also have some great newsletters you can subscribe to:
http://www.sitepoint.com
I would also recommend taking a basic HTML and CSS course from a local
community college. Usually, you can find good 1 or 2 day classes in the
continuing education departments for a couple hundred bucks. The one I take
classes from even has a web accessibility workshop course.

Oh my goodness, thank you everyone so much for these links and books. I just ordered the book "Web Accessibility, Web Standards and Regulatory Compliance" by Jim Thatcher and I will definitely read the online book, "Just Ask Integrating Accessibility Throughout Design." Then when I get though those I will order the CD from WebAIM. You guys are the best!!!
