Good Morning All,
I recently purchased software made in Holland to record things like radio shows fromn the net etc. I didn't think about this at the time but of course with me using JAWS and that's obviously audio as well, if I'm trying to create a playlist to record say from my Myspace page, I have to turn off my speech. I had, at one time, back in the Windows '98 days, DeckTalk Express External which was great because the speech was separate making it easier to listen to both music and speech and it now wouldn't pick up on the recording. All this to ask if anyone knows who makes DeckTalk and if I can update to use with Windows XP. Thanks as I'm sure someone will know.

Hi Diane:
Do a Google search for DECTalk USB (there is no "K" before the "T"), and you'll find several suppliers for the XP-compatible product. It's not cheap, though--$695 dollars.

Jane, thanks, I'll check that out now. Wonder if way back they had a SMA on
this product which I neglected to maintain.

If upgrading DeckTalk Express proves too costly, it's worth thinking about a second sound card. It's been possible to configure Jaws to use a specific sound card for some while now, and in Jaws 10 FS introduced a simple menu setting to allow you to choose. Previously, you needed to make a slight update to one of the .ini files.

Léonie.

Hello Diane and listers,
I just recently had my DecTalk Express repaired and it works fine with
WindowsXP. It gets its data stream from the serial port and not all of
the newer computers have one. The repair cost $390 and covered anything
and everything except battery and power supply.
I found Mr. Mitch Miller at Keyways Inc. in Ohio and he did a good job.
There may be other places as well. In looking for a used DECtalk
Express some time ago, e-bay had a few in the $400 range. Given all
that, you may do well to consider the new DECtalk USB which I believe
runs around $695.
I hope that helps,

Hello James,
Thanks for the info, I'll have to think about what I want to do. I just
know it was so much better having separate sound sources, much easier to
listen that way.
