What is your experience with the HTML5 Date input?

Here's a sample page. (Pretend it's a future travel date, not a birthday... I feel birthdays will always make more sense just to type in.)

In particular I'm wondering:

* There are a lot of different Android devices out there. Do some do it well? Do some perform poorly - that is, less accessible than a regular textbox?

* Does it work with alternative input devices, e.g. external keyboard, on mobile devices? (Does this matter?)

What I know so far:

* It seems simpler to use on iOS/Safari/VoiceOver than on Android/Chrome/TalkBack.

* On Windows/Chrome (no AT), keyboard input works, but I must type quickly. If I wait for more than 1 second between keystrokes, it resets the input, making it difficult to type a number of more than one digit.
