Jennifer Morrow from Mozilla writes: "After further looking into this, we've decided to support the longdesc attribute in Firefox."

For the entire post, please read:

This was a community effort and it was great to see so many participate either through voting for this bug, commenting on the bug report and on the blog, through tweeting/retweeting or contacting Mozilla directly. Some of the people who took the lead on this advocacy effort are still talking to Mozilla to make sure this feature gets implemented in a timely manner. Mozilla has opened a new bug for implementation of this feature, and if you would like to get updates, please add yourself as a CC on bug 877453 here:

https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id‡7453

Thanks to everyone who helped make this happen and a big thanks to Laura Carlson ( https://twitter.com/laura_carlson ) for starting this campaign and inspiring others to join in.

Regards,
-Vlad

I'd also like to remind everyone of this important note from Jennifer at
Mozilla:

"I also want to note for those on this thread that Bug 877453 is for
design and
patch creation only - not discussion of the merits of longdesc generally.
Please only comment on that bug if you're involved in its implementation.
Thanks!"

I urge everyone to respect this request. Let's let Mozilla do what they said
they will do.

Cheers!
