Subject: Where to get started

Hello all,
I am not sure where to begin but here goes. I am a current CIS major
specializing in Web Development and Administration. Hopefully I will be
graduating within a year or so. I am blind and I feel that web
accessibility is becoming extremely important. I want to learn about
this but there is so much that I am a bit lost in cyberspace. I was
wondering if anyone could give me some tips on where to look and on how
to start down this road? It will be very much appreciated.
Thank you,
Greg Wocher

I would start out by looking at the WCAG2.0 standards. Then I'd start looking at WAI-ARIA coding, that's going to keep you busy.

Greg,
What a shame this isn't just a part of your curriculum! Other than your experience as a user, I don't know how much background you already have. If it's close to none, you might want to check some of the primer or overview resources we've bookmarked at https://wiki.state.ma.us/confluence/label/assistivetechnologygroup/overview

Hello Greg,
I suggest starting from:
* A high-level, broad introduction: <http://www.w3.org/standards/webdesign/accessibility>
* Accessibility Principles <http://www.w3.org/WAI/intro/people-use-web/principles>
The links from there will give you details on specific topics.
Don suggested WCAG 2.0. The starting place for that is the WCAG 2.0 Overview at: <http://www.w3.org/WAI/intro/wcag>
Regards,
~Shawn
