Hi, all.

Are any of you using Issuu<https://issuu.com/> or a similar service for web publication of materials designed for print? We have a college that produces newsletters for several of its departments and they are considering Issuu to embed newsletters in their websites. It doesn't appear to be accessible and their forum doesn't have much discussion at all about making content accessible.

Suggestions?

Thanks,
Rachel

Rachel, I Googled "issuu accessibility" and the results were not very promising regarding Issuu supporting accessibility. That's just a 2-second quick Google-check, but where there's smoke...

Brian,

I agree! I saw several univ sites letting folks know NOT to use Issuu.
:-(. I am playing ³bad cop² too often these days, thanks to vendors who
haven¹t caught up with the awesomeness that is accessibility (Can we say,
³Prezi²?!?!)!

Happy Friday!
Rachel

I last looked at Issu several years ago when we were thinking about moving
UXPA's magazine (now uxpamagazine.org) online.

None of the publishing tools like Issu were at all accessible. Most were
barely usable. They are "PDF page turners" with poor navigation and poor
display options. They were pushed (mostly) by companies that did print
pre-press as an easy way to put your magazine up for online reading,
without any easy way to print the whole thing or download it (they saw this
as a rights management plus).

We ended up building our own.
