Subject: Transcripts for audio-only files

Hi all,

Was wondering if you have any advice on displaying the transcripts for
audio files. These are files of lectures or talks which were not video
taped but were recorded and are often part of a larger article.

I know adding a simple link to an audio transcript is sufficient (which
could then be downloaded and read) but I was wondering if there is a better
usability solution you all might advise?

I was thinking, for example, the transcripts could display on the page with
the audio file. I'm not sure what form this might take. A modal window? An
anchor link to someplace further down on the same page?

Appreciate any advice or examples you could share.

Hi Corrine,

One possible solution is to use AblePlayer's rolling audio transcript
viewer:
http://ableplayer.github.io/ableplayer/demos/audio4.html

Press the transcript icon and you will see the transcript and then it can
follow the audio.

I like this because the text follows the audio as it plays, although most
audio I have seen (oral histories mainly) either has a PDF to download or
the text underneath.
