Hello everyone,

Here at Free UK Genealogy we are building a new version of
www.freebmd.org.uk . As a charity, we rely on income from adverts, and
don't want them to interfere with accessibility for those who use screen
readers.

Can any of you point me at examples of websites that serve adverts, and
use skiplinks appropriately (or other solutions)?

With thanks and best wishes,

Pat

2.4.1 says that a mechanism is available to bypass blocks of content that
are repeated on multiple Web pages. So are your adverts repeated on every
page such that they would be part of the "blocks of content" to skip over?
If they only appear on the homepage, then you might not have to skip over
them since they're not repeated.

Thanks, Glen. Our adverts are on all pages (in the header), at the bottom
of the page on most pages, and in the body of the page on a good proportion
of pages.

Best wishes,

Pat

Hi Glen,

For clarification: we are happy to use skip links appropriately, but the
question is: is Google Adsense happy that we do so (I've also asked their
forum), but I'm hoping that someone here has created a site that has
adverts so knows what Google thinks!

Best wishes,

Pat

I'm happy to answer accessibility questions such as whether the adverts
should be included in the skip link. As far as how it affects google, that
indeed is a question for a different forum but I'm not sure that part of
the question is relevant. That is, how it affects them should not be a
deciding factor in whether you do it. If you have content that is repeated
on all pages, then you need a way to jump over that content.
