Hi Experts ,
If the Dropdown options are presented with Short Labels ,
will that be a Accessibility violation ?
Consider the case of a State selection Dropdown :in a Banking
/Insurance Application
Here the Dropdown options may be labled such as : Ala, Calif, DE, FL, La
Instead of presenting as - : Alabama, California, Delaware, Florida,
Louisiana so on
Is this coming under WCAG violation ? Please help me with your viewpoints
Thanks in advance,
Ajeesh Thomas

In short, I'd say no, it's not a WCAG violation.
Assuming you can't hover on the short label to see the full label (but
you can't with the keyboard, wich would be a keyboard accessibility
violation), these are the same labels for everyone.
Then it's the question of, does this fail WCAG 2.4.6 (descriptive labels).
I'd say no, it doesn't, these are descriptive labels.
There is a level AAA success criteria about explaining abbreviations,
but only when the abbreviations are not commonly used. I'd say in the
case of state abbreviations those are frequently used and typically do
not need an extended form.

I think that, in the example provided for state abbreviations, some of the abbreviations given are obscure for those of us in the US who expect standard abbreviations.
For example: Ala, Calif, DE, FL,
Standard abbreviations would be:
* AL
* CA
* DE
*FL
I'm pretty sure the abbreviations are based on standards provided by the USPS (United States Postal Service). There are two capitalized letters for each of the 50 states.
Cheers,
David
