Hello,

I just discovered this list and am sending a question for the first time so
please forgive any lapses in list etiquette.

I'm hoping to find resources that provide user research-backed information
about the accessibility of different web / UI / HTML components.

Some examples of what I mean by this can be found on gov.uk:

Here they discuss HTML text inputs and more specifically avoiding use of
type="number". They further mention research on the subject at the bottom
of the page

I don't have any formal research that we can publish, but we have done an awful lot of user testing and I can confirm that we have seen most of the issues GDS refer to with regard to type="number". We agree with their recommendations.

It's a shame we can't see the videos supporting the assertion that native <select> elements are problematic, because I don't believe we have ever encountered such a problem. Maybe they were testing with people at the very bottom of the digital inclusion scale, which we rarely get to do. That video is now 7 years old, so GDS may have changed their view since then.
