Hi all

Does the WCAG 1.3.4 Orentation
<https://www.w3.org/WAI/WCAG21/Understanding/orientation.html> exception
include video media players on mobile devices? I have seen some TV apps that
force orentation into landscape, but I don't understand why this has to be
so. Can anyone explain?

Thanks in anticipation.

Cheers

Barry

Most exceptions can be quite subjective and it can be difficult if one
person says it's an exception and another says it is not.

You probably looked at the "official" definition of "essential" as used in
this guideline, but just in case:

https://www.w3.org/TR/WCAG21/#dfn-essential
essential - if removed, would fundamentally change the information or
functionality of the content, and information and functionality cannot be
achieved in another way that would conform

Forcing a video into landscape mode might be needed in order to show all
the playback options on the video's toolbar (play, pause, fast forward,
rewind, advance 10 seconds, back up 10 seconds, volume, mute, captioning,
options, fullsize, etc).
