Hello all,
I have a question about WCAG 1.2.2.
We have archived video material for which we have transcripts available inhouse, but no properly timed subtitles. If we provide the transcripts alongside the videos on our website in sections (each covering 3–6 minutes), would that meet the minimum requirements of 1.2.2? Or does compliance require captions to be more precisely synchronized with the video?
For all our newer materials (>2015), we have proper subtitles. However, creating them for all archived content is currently beyond our budget.
Alternatively, is there an extremely cost-effective way to time transcripts to video that I might have overlooked?

Zjef,
If these are hosted on YouTube you can have it take your transcript and time it to the video to then have a good working closed caption file, assuming your transcript is good. You might need to edit to properly denote the speaker(s).

hi Zjerf,
My old org went through this many years ago. I would put them in buckets.
Our buckets were roughly:
1. Old videos that were so old that could be moved to a location that
was only accessed by admins.
2. Old videos that were still live, but a replacement was also live, so
it could be moved to a location like #1.
3. Old videos that a replacement was going to be released within [agreed
upon period].
There were probably a few more buckets that I am forgetting. This allowed
us have a pile that were a lot more manageable.
