Hello All,

We have a number of clients who want to create their own facebook,
flickr, and youtube areas. I am trying to raise the concern of 508 and
have put forth that in my opinion since the sites are being "used" by
the Federal government to convey their information that 508 inherently
applies. After receiving a response of "well such and such agency is
doing it" or "we'll make it compliant" I feel I'm in a debate I'd like
to have more background on. I haven't done any assessment of the various
sites as of yet. Before doing so, I wanted to see if others have had
similar project experiences or have done any assessment of the three
social media sites mentioned above.

Thanks,

Brian Cramer

EASI is hosting a webinar on social media and accessibility on November 19th, probably worthwhile as a resource for your project.

No point in re-inventing the wheel. There have been a lot of us out there
working on understanding the so-called Social Networks and accessibility.

Be aware that this area is in constant flux. Thing in SN change by the
minute some for the good; some for the bad, in terms of accessibility.

There are a number of folks working to make clients that bring the service
to all. For example Accessible Twitter http://www.accessibletwitter.com/

And there are LOTS of folks with disabilities out there using Social
Networking, particularly Twitter:

Terry Weaver at GSA would be a good contact for this kind of
information.

I have used Twitter, Accessible twitter and the regular facebook with out
problems. Myspace, which many use also I find a bit more difficult. I can
do it but it gets frustrating.

As for Youtube, someone I think from Britain has an application that I've
used quite successfully. Sorry if this is something you already know about
but just trying to share what I've used. The link for accessible youtube
is: http://tube.majestyc.net/
