Hey guys, quick question - does anyone know the state's take on 508
compliance? Just curious about california's interpretation of 508 law.

The state as a whole has adopted it as its own standard the Cal state system
and the community college system both must follow it. But at UC we are vague
and its fuzzy if we are or are not covered by it. Lucy

ADA Section 508, Title III, still only covers federal government web sites
and institutions that receive federal funding like universities. So it
doesn't really apply to corporate web sites. Yet. Although, that's
definitely coming soon.

However, in California we do have other pieces of legislation that we think
do apply to the accessibility of corporate web sites. One of them is the Unruh
Civil Rights Act <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unruh_Civil_Rights_Act>;.

State's fall under Section 504 vs 508. Section 504 says states can
adopt their own standard if they wish. States that do usually adopt
508, WCAG or a hybrid of the two. If they don't then 508 is used by
default. More information at: http://sam.dgs.ca.gov/TOC/4800/4833.htm
