Hello All,
How do you enable and disable Java Script in JAWS?
Do Window Eyes, VoiceOver and NVDA have the same ability to enable and disable Java Script?
Thanks,
Lolly

Hi:
I've been a JAWS user for twenty years and I have not encountered the ability to turn off or on Java scripting.
...are you sure that this is what you really want?

You disable it in your browser, not your screen reader.

HI Lolly,
In the Jaws Utilities Menu, choose Setting Center.
Go to Web/HTML > Misc > Page Refresh Filter. This has 3 options: Off,
every 60 seconds, or "as needed", i.e., always refreshes. There is
also a checkbox to ignore Flash. Similar settings can be found in the
Quick Settings feature from a browser window (with Jaws active): JawsKey+V.
When desired/necessary, though, I usually turn off JS in the browser itself.
Hth,
Patrick

Patrick:
...are you saying that JFW can turn off the browser setting for enabling or disabling Java script?

I don't know how it works under the hood, but Jaws can ignore calls
that would otherwise cause the page to refresh. I believe the browser
JS keeps on ticking as normal, but Jaws freezes its buffer in place,
until the user takes some further action.

Hi:
But if this were indeed the case, wouldn't there be a potential issue if JAWS had the means to negate behind the scene logic intended to perform a specific business request?

yes and that is why there is text that says make sure any action you
have happen with java does not brake with java turned off

I do not defend the feature's right to exist, I only report that it
does exist. :)
Actually, a case where this could be very handy for a user is: A page
with ads that constantly update, causing Jaws to reset its buffer ,
thus preventing you from reading the page to the end. Solution:
Insert+v, DownArrow (to get out of the search box), P for Page
Refresh, select the Off choice, Enter. Read page in peace. Then
either turn off the setting, or close the browser session, which will
cause Jaws to return to whatever your default Refresh setting is.
... Sounds complicated as I write it out, but for many users (& some
browsers), it's simpler than maneuvering thru the browser settings every time.

But disabling refresh and disabling JavaScript are two very different
animals. Some sites plain out die if you remove JavaScript.
