Hi all,

I want to know your opinion on screen reader announcements. For example
for a skip link we provide href="#id" which leads to announcement as
"Same page link" with JAWS while NVDA announces it as general link and
Voiceover as inpage link. It also happens with symbols such as *.

Being a screen reader user it is fine for me unless it changes the
meaning, but want to know experts opinion as well.

Thanks & Regards
Rakesh

The "same page" message is something the user can change in the verbosity settings for JAWS, hope that clarifies for you.

Rakesh,

This is a function of the screen reading software. Most screen readers,
including JAWS, provide the user with the ability to choose whether or not
to have the screen reader announce that the link leads to a location on the
same page. As long as the link is coded to function properly, and clearly
indicates where it goes then the link is correct. Developers should ignore
screen reader generated announcements and instructions. I have my screen
reader set to speak JAWS commands and instructions in a different voice
than the content so that I can tell which is which.
