What is the correct way to tag tables (in Adobe Acrobat 5.0) in order to
make the tables 508 accessible?

When I tag a table, the screen reader (such as Jaws) does not announce that
the element is a Table Column Header, Table Row Header, or Table Data
Element.

Isn't it necessary for the person hearing this data to hear what type of
data is contained in each cell?

Thank you (in advance) for sharing your experiences in doing this!

My understanding is that none of the screen readers
currently support the table reader as outlined in 508.
The intention is to prompt industry to build readers
that will use the (soon-to-be) widely implemented code
for tables.

At least that's what was mentioned at a seminar I
attended recently.
