Hello,

We have a word document full of changes. My client would like to able to
follow these changes and know exactly what was omited and added to the
document. We checked the document with jaws 18 and the vocal indication was
only of some of the changes which made it unreliable.

Would you have a suggestion what can be done about this? How can we get a
full reading of various changes to the document?

Thank you

Hi,
I have had more success working with NVDA using Track Changes than I have had with JAWS. I believe I have used Simple Markup for best success, but have occasionally looked at two versions of documents and used No Markup on one and have gone through them line by line. It's painful, but it works.

I have taken the following text from the Jaws 2018 popular applications
for Microsoft word.

Track Changes
This option controls if JAWS detects and announces any insertions,
deletions, formatting changes, or comments made to a document using
Word's Track Changes feature.
Several choices are available for this option.
Off: JAWS does not detect any revisions.
Speak type: JAWS announces the type of revision made, for example,
inserted text or deleted text. This is the default setting.
Speak type plus count: In addition to speaking the type of revision,
JAWS also announces the number of revisions per line.
Speak type and author: In addition to speaking the type of revision,
JAWS also announces the user name of the individual who made the
revision.
Speak type and author plus count: JAWS speaks the type of revision, the
name of the person who made it, and the number of revisions per line.
Speak type, author, and date: JAWS speaks the type of revision, the
name of the person who made it, and the date the revision was made.
Speak type, author, and date plus count: JAWS speaks the type of
revision, the name of the person who made it, the date the revision was
made, and the number of revisions per line.

Note: You can also use CTRL+INSERT+R to announce revision information
when the cursor is on a revised item. Refer to Track Changes (
mk:@MSITStore:C:%20Scientific2018.CHM::/word_processing/microsoft_word/track_changes_wd.htm
) for more information.

You can review current settings by pressing insert + v to open quick
settings from Microsoft Word.
type tr in the search field to provide the settings for track changes
which will appear in the list below.

I hope this helps.
I believe that this would also apply to jaws 18.

Yes, these settings also work in Jaws18, I have used them on and off over the last 4 years. There is also a virtual cursor command to jump to the next revision. So if you turn on the virtual cursor in Word with insert-z then you should be able to quickly navigate through the revisions, if you are not comfortable with the revision list that david provided.

Best Wishes,

Jonathan

JAWS has keyboard commands to list revisions and comments.

Open Virtual Viewer and view list of comments, footnotes, endnotes, or revisions in

Use these when in SayAll:
Next Revision (when using Track Changes) R
Next Comment N

Use these when editing text:
List Comments Ctrl + Shift + Apostrophe
List Revisions JawsKey + Shift + R

If you have Track Changes set to Simple Markup, this will not work with adaptive technology. You need to set the Track Changes to Show All Markup.

I would also advise only having Comments in balloons.

I've written a tutorial on using Track Changes with the keyboard and adaptive technology:
http://www.karlencommunications.com/OfficeForWindowsAccessibility.html

Get a list of links and look for Track Changes, Comments and Comparing Documents.

I use JAWS 18 and I use Track Changes all the time.

Cheers, Karen

I have my Track changes verbosity settings set to Type and Author.

JawsKey + V then look for Track Changes.

Cheers, Karen
