WCAG itself doesn't require you to test on any particular platform or
technology. How you want to verify you're compliant is up to you.
Depending on budget and personnel, various screen reader and browser
combinations can catch a lot of issues. Commonly, I've seen JAWS/IE,
NVDA/Firefox, VoiceOver on iOS. That leaves out Chrome (with either
Chromevox or JAWS/NVDA) and VoiceOver on the Mac. If you know your
audience will be using Macs, then testing VO on that platform would be a
good idea. I've only tested a few times with a refreshable Braille device
but they have caught things that a screen reader hasn't. We had a page
with temperatures and the degree symbol was not the correct ascii code for
Braille. I forgot what it was reading as but we fixed it. Visually, and
for the screen reader, it didn't make a difference, but for the Braille
device, it did.

I have also done a lot of testing with just screen readers and also braille
devices, and there can be differences as Glen said...If possible, do test
with both as there can be wonks found.

Cheers

To add what our good friends have said:
It's not that WCAG, which requires use of testing with a specific platform
/ software / hardware, it should be customer who should make a decision as
to who are their audience? If there are potential users who uses Braille
Display or any other assistive technologies, it would be worth testing
using them.

I believe a little of your message might have gotten lost. In Jaws there is certainly the ability to bring up a on screen braille display available under the start menu.

If you were asking about NVDA and the NVDA word got lost, than I am not sure directly, the only thing I have experienced is the text viewer.

There is also a virtual Braille Display panel for Macintosh VoiceOver. You can look in the Visuals area of VoiceOver Utility to enable.
Best wishes,

Jonathan Cohn
