Hi Team,

I am in need of accessibility guidelines of physical infrastructure
that can be shared with the builder. requesting you all to share
guidelines that are followed in India, and across the globe.

I am ok with either the document or link.

Look at the us access board's guidelines for accessible design, not sec 508. www.access-board.com These form the basis of all us building codes.

Hi all,

thanks a lot for your responses. I have now downloaded
2010ADAStandards_prt from www.ada.gov, and ADAag from
www.access-board.gov

please let me know which of these you would advise me to share with the builder?

Carpet and also check the British accessibility standards as well because I've just been updated for including way finder. Australia has a similar standard which might want to look at. Comparing multiple different standards will give you a better sense of what you should do. What does India have in this area it must have some form of standard which is what builder will follow.

At the risk of sounding snarky, the ADA was passed in 1990 and has been enforced since then. If a builder doesn't already know about it, I would question using that builder. That is pretty out of touch!!!

Dave, that would be a valid point if we were talking about the US. But
since Karthik's original question contained a phone number with an Indian
country code (+91), I'm guessing any laws passed regarding the *Americans*
with Disabilities Act probably don't apply. Just like if I hired a builder
in the US, I wouldn't expect them to know about any British or Indian
building codes.

I fully agree, the comments about section 508 and the ADA do not make
sense. The only way the ADA would be applicable is if the United States
government was building a building over there, but that may come down to
what the treaty says.
