Hello,,
Is anyone familiar with the Department of Homeland Security's "Interagency
Trusted Tester Program" for Section 508?
https://www.dhs.gov/interagency-trusted-tester-program. I had never heard
of this and just stumbled across it. It isn't clear how to become
certified. Does anyone know what the process is to get certified? Is anyone
certified?
Thanks!
Greg

Hello Greg,
You need to register for the trusted tester program.
Then, they will send you an access and all information you need to get through the program.
The program itself is about 30- 40 hours of online courses, and there are bunch of quizzes after each module which you need to pass 90% to go through the next module.
After you finished all the modules, you need to take the Trusted Tester Certification exam which was pretty intense for me.
Good luck :)

I have heard of it and know that some federal employees that have been certified - but they will have to re-certify due to the changes in Section 508 that took effect this January.
I know of no private sector nor educational employees (barring contractors, and even then agencies often will train direct federal employees before contractors) who have accessed the training or have been certified at this time.
Best,

Hi Greg,
You have to email the Accessibility Help Desk from the website and ask to enroll. Enrollment begins upon receipt of the email notification. You will find all the details how to access the courses and all the important information. You must complete all the lessons and pass the Trusted Training exam prior to take the Trusted Tester Certification Exam.
The help desk is very helpful and you can call and ask too. Good luck!

I'll add a few pointers:
1. Pay attention to the timeframe for getting through the course and also completing the exam. Your registration will expire.
2. Save your work and notes as you progress through the course. They are helpful during the certification exam.
3. If you are working on USG equipment, it can be a challenge just to get the tools approved for use and installed by Sys admins. If you are working on your own equipment, no problem.
4. When you get to the point of practicing with Object Inspect, you can eliminate most of the fields in the feedback panel except for the few you'll use.
Best of luck.

I would add also that figuring out the system requirements prior to even beginning is a must.
