Hi Folks,

I have a sighted friend who is interested in learning PDF accessibility. As
a blind developer, I have never touched that part of A11Y and have no desire
to do so.

I wanted to reach out to the WebAIM community to find out about tutorials
that they recommend, classes or certifications that are valued in the PDF
accessibility industry.

Any references would be highly appreciated.

I highly recommend Ted Page - he has specialised in accessible PDFs and other document types for more than a decade. However, he is in England and does not do public courses so you need to get 3 or 4 people together to make his training affordable.

PubCom.com offers training and are US based.
https://www.pubcom.com/

They offer online or on-site training and have been providing training in
accessible PDF for several years.

I have an online course in accessible fillable PDF forms but it is based on
having knowledge about tagged PDF before you take it.
https://karen-mccall.teachable.com/p/accessible-fillable-pdf-forms

It is a self paced online course and if you have questions, just ask. You
get a copy of the book Accessible Fillable PDF forms and the course which
has about 40 videos or more. The topics are listed on the course home page
as is pricing.

You can purchase the fourth edition of my Accessible and Usable PDF
Documents book from the same Teachable site. I also have the book Styles in
Word: A Primer for Accessible Document Design and a course based on the book
with about 65 videos covering topics in the book on the same site.

Cheers, Karen

WebAIM has a new online Document (Word, PowerPoint, and PDF)
Accessibility training - https://webaim.org/training/docs/

This is a self-paced, online course with monthly cohorts that last 4
weeks (though you can take much longer to complete the course, if
desired). We've received very good feedback about the course and it is
structured to be highly accessible to participants with disabilities.

Thanks,

I just wanted to say that my co-worker and I just completed WebAIM's new Document course and we learned a lot. I've already recommended it to several other people. Great course Jared :) Next we need complete PDF remediation training - we have so, so many PDFs on our sites.
