Subject: Accessibility Checker in Microsoft Word with Using Headers and Footers

I am remediating a document and it has headers and footers in it. When I
did the accessibility checker it came up as a table error and an alt text
error. So, I right clicked and went to table properties and included alt
text along with setting the row to repeat as a header.

My question is, is this the best way to handle tables/headers/footers or is
there another way? I want to be sure that I'm remediating the best way.
Suggestions appreciated.

What software are you using to create the document?

It is hard to say for sure without seeing the actual document.

Do you mean that you have a table inside the page header in an MS Word
document?

Hi Phil,

Yes, when I went to the accessibility checker in word it identified the
headers and footers and tables which confused me at first. This is my first
time working with headers and footers in a Word document. I'm new to this,
so any advice is greatly appreciated. Here's what the top of the document
looks like.

I'm still not quite sure which parts of your text are tables and which
parts are headers and footers.

Page "headers" are the area that appears at the top of each page - it is
set or edited via Insert -> Header in the ribbon. Table "row headers"
are the cells typically in the first row of a table that serve as column
headings for cells below them - they are set via the Layout -> Repeat
Header Rows option. All data tables should have a row marked with
"repeat header row".

Regarding tables in page headers, however, generally, my recommendation
would be not to use tables inside your headers and footers if you can
avoid them. Tables should be used only for formatting tabular data
(where you have rows and columns of data). In most cases, text inside
headers and footers can be formatted using tabs and setting tab stops in
the centre and at the right margin. That would certainly seem to be the
case for the text you've indicated?

Phil.
