Detlev,
Of use may be the link to a document on essential aspects of large print maps and such as using solid backgrounds. Reducing details for users with low vision will help as well. Perhaps allowing the user to remove or add layers as desired may be beneficial as well to user with low vision and cognitive disabilities.

Subject: [WebAIM] Request for comments on "Best practices for accessible diagram design" (draft)

Hi everyone,

I have been drafting a chapter on the accessibility of diagrams for a forthcoming book by Clive Richards (working title "Diagrammatics") that has various other chapters on different "mainstream" aspects of diagram design.

I could think of no better way of vetting my draft than posting a link to this forum:
http://www.incobs.de/articles/items/diagram-a11y.html

I have organised the best practices into three parts:

- requirements of low vision users
- requriements of blind users
- requiremenhts of people with cognitive and learning disabilities

For each o these groups, I have compiled a design checklist to address the requirements.

You would do me a great favour if you could look at the draft and comment (here, or in the comments section below the draft).

Many thanks in advance!
Detlev Fischer
